A belated hello my duckies,
I drafted most of this a week ago… and then life took over, as it does. A week of pick ups and drop offs, flowers and clients, prep for a family birthday, a sea of forms and emails and dish washing, the mundane things and all the things. And so: my poor newsletter dropped to the bottom of the list and here we are.
And in all honesty - Mother’s Day is a tricky one. On one hand, it’s one of the most exciting and lovely days for flowering… but it’s also complicated. Even for some of us who are lucky enough to have a child and to spend our days in the joys (and extreme dirt… how is there so much dirt?!) of motherhood, this can be a tricky time. I shared a little of my personal experience here and will say it again: if this holiday is not for you, I see you.
But for those of who have mother types or mother hopefuls in your life: send a little love note, pick up some pastries (and perhaps a few toys off the floor) and maybe present her with flowers. It’s a strange life and she should know: you love her so. A few other ideas below…

around the studio - gift guide edition!
always appreciated: Everyone loves to be fed… so might we suggest Iberico pork “secreto” with a bit of pimenton and a side of griddled ramps? Or perhaps a simple spaghetti with agretti and green garlic? Maybe luxe white asparagus with bottarga butter? // and paired with: A favorite bottle of natural frizzante from Emilia Romagna. A little sparkle, a lot of deliciousness, goes well with a meal or lounging in bed. // but regardless: Sweets! Maybe a warm rhubarb galette covered in melting ice cream? Or a decadent flourless chocolate gateaux, flown in specially from Tokyo? // and for when she’s eaten the cake: I’d suggest this 1973 surrealist “cookbook” from Dali described as lively, aggressive, and impertinent (and of course, to be gifted with time to read it… see “wine in bed” above). // lest we forget: Glitter never goes amiss. These delicate earrings from my favorite jewelery designer are chic but still small enough to withstand grubby little hands. // a mini escape: The scent of hinoki is ~transporting~ (even when you’re surrounded by plastic boats). One favorite here, and another here. // or a very big escape: A girl can dream. // or you could just make her an oasis right here at home: Get yourself some Farrow & Ball and paint a room to make it * nice *. Some inspo here. // and of course: Flower subscriptions are a way to say I love you today and I’ll love you next month (and the one after that). See here.
