studio rien: the gift guide! and holiday orders too
from cocktails to outings to art and, of course, the ultimate piggy bank
Hello my duckies,
It snowed yesterday. For just a few moments, and so lightly it seemed almost like dust dancing around, but there it was. I stepped out, and thought this is It. Winter is really here.
Part of the fun of having a small child is that there is always, always a holiday to look forward to, a season or reason to celebrate. And so we are doing our best to enter this next month with gusto (despite the very adult knowledge of the dark days of January and February looming ahead…).
Our tree is up, and as is tradition, a tiny tree for “playing” perched aside of it. We are lighting candles left and right, there is talk of cookie decorating. And of course — presents. For some of us, the true pleasure of December is picking out a little something for the people we love, and sharing it with joy.
And so, like everyone else, I offer you my Gift Guide. A little haphazard—maybe something for your mother, maybe something for your neighbor—but all shared with great enthusiasm. Happy holidays, my friends.

a note about holiday hours
The Studio will be closed December 22nd - 30th, which means now is the time to sneak in your holiday order! Grab a bouquet for the kid’s teachers, an arrangement for that office holiday party, or a quick gift for that one relative…
flower subscriptions — weekly or monthly deliveries now available
After a little pilot this summer, subscriptions are sticking around! Join the Studio Rien club of Very Smart People who get a weekly or monthly delivery of rotating flowers and foliage right to their door. (Especially handy these winter months: see snow above). Order here.

around the studio — gift guide edition!
could anything be more perfectly timed: When it comes to drinks, there’s no one I trust more than my old friends Carey and John (… also known as the couple who once arrived at a dinner party with three separate cocktails, including one that required *fresh snow* which they had carefully collected and transported from Bed Stuy.) Their new book offers brilliant twists on classic cocktails, empowering us all to be Dinner Party Heroes. // so good we’re giving it twice: A few years back I gave this mechanical cat in a box piggy bank (uh, click it to understand?) to my brother-in-law as a gag gift, and this year we’re bringing it back for the cat-obsessed child. // but wait til I get my order in please? My sweet friend Carolyn Wiedeman is an incredible artist who occasionally releases flower studies, beautiful paintings of a snapshot of time in her studio. Only a few are left and I won’t tell you which I have my eye on. // combining multiple passions: When we got married, I insisted on registering for a truly absurd number of champagne coups because what could be a better omen for a life of gathering and cheer?! …but now that I’ve discovered these I deeply regret it. So pretty!! // shameless plug: My husband started Heatmap, covering the most important (and interesting!) climate news out there, and if you know someone who, well, lives on Earth, they probably need a subscription. Give the gift here. // for the new yorkers in the crowd: If you haven’t yet visited the Mysterious Bookshop in Tribeca, an outing combined with lunch at Frenchette would be an excellent gift. For everyone else: lean on their team to order your love a mystery novel that perfectly fits their vibe. (Our vibe: Nero Wolfe, the orchid-growing gourmand sleuth who never leaves his townhouse created by Rex Stout in the 30s.) // who doesn’t like cookies? I’ve got my eye on these (rye! chocolate! from mokonuts where I would really like to go!), but the go-to are forever these, satisfying and filled with texture. Bake ‘em and box ‘em, or better yet give a frozen log of dough for future joy. // also can’t go wrong: Chocolates from Casa Bosques are the ultimate luxury, and this Gohar collab looks so good.
…and of course! there is no gift as personal and special as flowers.
Arrangements, subscriptions (the gift that keeps giving!), and gift cards all available here and sent with love.
